Teachers Who Pray | Guidance For New Teachers

Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful. And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another— and all the more as you see the Day approaching.” Hebrews 10:23-25 (NIV)

Amidst busy schedules, teachers should prioritize regular prayer meetings to uplift each other and the school community. “Teachers Who Pray” encourages educators to gather weekly for encouragement and prayer, fostering a spiritual bond that can transform the world (John 17:23). This episode focuses on offering Guidance for New Teachers through prayer.

Prayer Of Adoration

Hallelujah. Our Father, we thank You for this time of adoration, but we pray to You because of who You are. You first loved us, the love of our souls. We adore You. We glorify You because You are the author and the finisher, the Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending. Holy Lord, God Almighty, You are mighty and merciful. You are mighty to protect. You are the very present help in the time of trouble, and we adore You. We give thanks to You. We admire Your glory. We yield to Your goodness. We worship and bow down before You because You are Lord of lords, King of kings. You are the Holy One of all.

You are good and Your mercy endures forever. You are the grace. You are the yes and the amen. You are the first and the last. The beginning and the ending. You are the Alpha and the Omega. You are the breath in which we breathe, and it is in You that we live and move and have our very being. You are our source. You are the living manna, the living bread. You are hope. You are the courage. You are peace, and we adore You.

You are the light, the life, and the truth. You are Abba. We are so grateful that You have not given us the spirit of fear but of love, power, and a sound mind. You are perfect love, that perfect love that covers a multitude of sins. That perfect love that casts out all torments, and terror. You are the comforter. You are the truth. You are the teacher. You are the righteous resurrection, and we live and move and have our being in thy goodness. It is You that glorifies us. It is You that justifies us. It is You that sanctifies us. You are worthy to be praised.

As we gather together here in Your name to receive of You, the source, to be restored by You, to be reconciled in You, we give You the praise. If we had 10,000 tongues, that wouldn’t be enough for You have done for us exceedingly, abundantly above all that we can ask or think. You have granted us shalom, perfect peace that is beyond our understanding.

You are our light by day and our light by night. Glory to Your name. You are the lamp to our feet and the light to our path. It does You pleasure to see us prospering. We are grateful. You are the Father to the fatherless. You are the husband or the widow. You are a wall of fire all around us. Glory to Your name. Thank You, Lord. Had You not been here, we wouldn’t be here. Had You not been there in our past, we wouldn’t understand this moment that You have afforded to us by grace not that we deserve it, but it’s unmerited, and it cannot be bought. It is priceless, yet You have given it to us as a gift. You spared not Your only begotten Son, yet You spare us, and freely, You have given Him to us. How much greater with Him that we can adore You on this day, and we are grateful. In Jesus Christ’s name, amen.

Prayer of the confession. Heavenly Father, we long for the day when we will dwell with You, when we will be free from sin, death, and the evil one, where there will be no more pain and suffering. We will see You face to face. We look forward to that day as we place our trust and hope in You, Lord. We are sinners, and we are turning yet again from our sinful ways and desires and refocusing our thoughts and actions on You, the perfect one.

We confess that we have easily strayed from serving You in our classrooms by allowing students and staff members to say and do things that are not pleasing to You. We don’t do anything because we don’t want confrontation. We don’t stand up and say anything because we don’t want to deal with it, and we forget that You are with us to help us and to guide us, to give us the gentle words to say, Lord God. We confess that we have missed numerous opportunities to share what You have done and are doing with those closest to us, those who do not have a relationship with You in our families and in our schools. Forgive us for keeping Your goodness to ourselves, Lord.

Prayer Of Confession

There are so many hungering for Your love and forgiveness. Forgive us for not sharing, Lord. Father, we are sorry for judging others and deeming them unlovable, too set in their ways, too hardened to hear the gospel news. We openly confess to You now that we are poor, miserable sinners who are in need of You every second of every day. We thank You for forgiving us, and we praise You because it is only by Your shed blood that we are washed holy and righteous in Your eyes. We love You, Lord Jesus, and we raise this prayer of confession in Your name, the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.

Prayer Of Thanksgiving

Prayer of Thanksgiving. Father, we enter Your gates with thanksgiving and enter Your courts with praise. We are so grateful for You being our heavenly Father. We bless Your name. We offer You our sacrifice of thanksgiving, for You alone are the Most High God who fulfills all Your promises. You are faithful. You are not a man that You would lie, nor the son of man who changes His mind. What You have said, You will do what You have spoken, You will fulfill. We give thanks to You for You are good, and Your love endures forever. You are our merciful Father and the source of all comfort.

We thank You for salvation, and we are not ashamed of the good news, the gospel because it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes in the sons of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, and to those grafted into the Jewish family by Your merciful grace. We thank You for working all things together for the good of those who love You and are called according to Your purpose. We give thanks to You for You have blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places.

Lord, we thank You because when we come to You weary and burdened, You give us rest. We give thanks to You because we can be sure that You who began a good work in us will bring it to completion until the day of Jesus the Messiah. Lord, we give You thanks as educators because You give us everything we need to do the work You have called us to do. You give us words of wisdom, patience, discernment, a sense of humor, childlike curiosity, creativity, and the ability to be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to become angry. The ability to serve and love in a way that demonstrates there is a loving Father who is patient toward us, not wishing that any should perish but that all should reach repentance.

Lord, we give you thanks as educators because you give us everything we need to do the work you have called us to do. Share on X

We will rejoice always, pray continually, and give thanks in all circumstances, for this is Your will for us, Father, in Your Son, Christ Jesus. Thanks be to God because You have given us victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. We will not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition with Thanksgiving, we will present our requests to You, Lord. Your perfect peace, which transcends all understanding, will guard our hearts and minds in Christ Jesus. We will praise Your name with exaltation and magnify You with Thanksgiving, amen.

Prayer Of Supplication: Disruptive Students

Prayers of supplication. Lord, we bring to You disruptive students, students who appear bored but are hurting. Often we disregard them or lay down punishments or rules, and we have become authorities, instead of looking at them with Your eyes. Forgive us. Give us Your eyes to see how to respond to them. Give us ears to hear their concerns. Help us to read their faces, even their body language. Give us insight into exactly what they need and help our reactions to be loving.

Father, we pray for new teachers or teachers who have switched grade levels or content areas. We pray for these teachers, that as they feel inadequate, overwhelmed, and like they may have made a mistake, they would instead see this as an opportunity to cry out to You, to turn to You, and to ask You which way they should go. Father, we pray for the new teachers who encountering things they never learned about or thought about, who feel ill-equipped. We pray that in their weakness, they will find strength in You, Father God. We pray for our colleagues who are facing this and who aren’t believers.

We pray that this would even be an opportunity for them to ask, “What must I do to be saved?” That they would turn to You, that there would even be revival in their lives that they would repent and turn to You. For those that are believers, that they would not doubt, but they would trust. They would have faith in knowing that You will lead them and guide them, that they would hear Your voice behind them that would know that, “This is the way. Walk in it.” That they would not be afraid and would understand that You have not given them a spirit of fear but have given them the self-control they need, the love and power they need to do these new things they have been called to. Whether it’s a new teaching, new curriculum, new content area, or new grade level, whatever it is that You will make a way for them, and they can trust You, amen.

We pray for teachers who are doubting their ability to teach for their career choice. We thank You for placing us in these positions, but we know that and you know that it can be overwhelming. As long as You have called us to be here, help us to stand firm in that calling. We thank You for Your joy and peace in times of frustration. We thank You that we do not let Satan have a foothold to make us doubt what You have ordained for us to do.

Those of us whom You are calling into new seasons, we thank You for sending confirmation. For those of us whom You have allowed to stay in the classroom, we continue to lift that up to You. We continue to pray, to seek You, and not to follow the flesh, or what is trending, or what our coworkers say. We thank You for giving us strong minds to follow You and to be content and happy with where You have placed us in this season and every season. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Prayer Of Supplication: Traumatized Students And Teachers

Heavenly Father, we are here supplicating and praying for students and teachers who have been traumatized by assaults and offenses. Disruptive students who are traumatized themselves hurting people, the cycle of pain and trauma that comes with it. Lord, we have seen the tragedy, yet You have called us here to this place by Your grace and mercy.

Abba Father, You have appointed us to watch and to pray. Here we are before You asking You to mend the broken hearts of teachers, especially those who were offended and hurt by that student when they looked into their eyes, all they saw was a baby. They saw their sons and daughters and yet this child transgressed against them and crossed those boundary lines we could never imagine. Have mercy. Mend their hearts. Strengthen them. Let them not become weary in their well-doing.

Here we are before you, Lord, asking you to mend the broken hearts of teachers. Share on X

We ask for the comforting power of Your Holy Spirit, even now, as they bravely show up daily amidst these things, oftentimes feeling alone when administrators don’t understand when seemingly no one understands but You. You are the very present help in times of trouble. We call upon You to give them miraculous strength that only comes from You, and for those students who have witnessed these things, who have been exposed to a place they once found safety in, and some, having no safety at home in this place have been.

Lord, transgress against the safeties of schools for this is a calling. We ask You to restore our schools back to a place of safety. Restore our teachers back to a mind of peace. In the name of Jesus Christ mend those breached places and we ask for the tragedy and trauma that were meant for Your children’s evil by Your grace, as we gather in this place, that You would call it to work together for good that these things that will cause terror and even nightmares that You will call it to become a testimony and a witness of Your miraculous hand and Your ways.

We will be mindful to give You all the honor, the glory, and the praise. This is not impossible for You. Let us not lose hope as we put our trust in You, knowing that You will do these things. You will do exceedingly, abundantly above all that we can ask or think according to Your goodness. You are good, Abba. We put our trust in You. In Jesus Christ’s name, we pray. Amen.
